Diwali bonus calculator
How much Diwali bonus for your maid, cook or driver? Many homes give one month’s salary, and for someone who joined during the year, a share by the months they’ve worked. Pick what suits your home.
In Home Ledger, add it as a Festival bonus: it goes into that month’s pay and shows on the statement you send on WhatsApp, so nobody has to remember it later.

A custom, not a fixed rule
- One month’s salary is the most common Diwali bonus for someone who has worked with you a year or more.
- By months worked shares it out for someone newer: 7 full months on a ₹6,000 salary is ₹3,500.
- Part-time helpers who work in several homes usually get it from each home, on that home’s salary.
- What is fair is your call. Many homes also give sweets, clothes or a gift for the family.
Questions
Asked often
When should I give the Diwali bonus?
A few days before Diwali, so it can be used for the festival. Many homes pay it with that month’s salary, or early if salary day falls after Diwali.
How are full months counted?
From the day they started: someone who started on 10 March has 7 full months by 8 November, because 10 October has passed and 10 November hasn’t.
Is the bonus cut from salary?
No. A bonus is on top of the salary. In Home Ledger it is added to the month’s pay as its own line.
Does this calculator keep what I type?
No. The sums run in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.
